Person 1: I study theory of peer production. Some say it is the seed for communism and other say it is the next big ideal for capitalist exploitation.

Articulation: Different mode of prodcution or of organising society you have to find a way to make these logics work in a capitalist framework. A new system work in an already existing context`framework. TOR project has a different way of doing things in the capitalist system. I am a big fan of autonomist thought but they were never able to accumulate resources. Squatters had this idea of stealing property. It was a great idea but in practices.

PErson 2: A paper that was written by Dimitri Kliner – a critic to CC - called Peer Production licence – Copy far left. Could TOR lincense with a philosophy that they support.

Funding models:

  • cooperative models
  • Wikipedia – asking for donations
  • CNT – catalan foundation – P2P foundation will partner with the Cnt.
  • Fundations
  • Goteo-like crowdfounding platform

-When I think about TOR (or other radical technology) I think about the Situationism – these technologies are recuperated by capitalists. How can we prevent this from happening?

- To have any chance of a revolution we need encrypted communication? Question: Is it the only element/tactic we need to scale up the revolution? To have encrypted communication? Thinking about secure communication - is an idealising way of understanding what the revolution is all about. Secure communication is necessary and important but of course it is not the whole story.

An interesting venue to be involved in: Ietf meeting (Internet engineering task force – which is a venue for standardization of protocols and languages): 2000 people meet for a week long and make decision in 15 minutes. The downfall with IETF is that yes everyone can go, but those who go need a lot of time to read loads and loads of documents. So most of the people who go there are from the commercial sphere, researchers, etc..

To scale up the revolution – we need great tools but tools are not enough. We need people to use those tools. Talking only about tools bring technological deterministic ways of understnading technology and society. We should aim for a Free secure internet – but we should think about the hardware solution, the usability, etc.
